MIGRAINES LADIES? You don't have to bear it anymore.
What is a Migraine? A migraine is a primary headache disorder characterised by recurrent headaches that are moderate to severe. Typically, the headaches affect one half of the head, are pulsating in nature, and last from two to 72 hours. Associated symptoms may include nausea, vomiting, and sensitivity to light, sound, or smell.
What some people don’t realise is that your migraines may be related to your PMS.
Initial treatments for migraines are simple pain medication such as Ibuprofen or Paracetamol, and in severe cases your doctor will prescribe stronger pain medication, but this treatment is not always effective and after time, may even stop working.
In my appointments at The Round Clinic, I see many women who suffer from migraines and headaches which vary in severity.
Here is one of my many cases that was successfully treated with Acupuncture.
Martha, aged 35, first came to see me in April 2017 suffering from migraines all her life, she used birth control pills and coils regularly and her migraines were at their worst 2 days into her monthly cycle which were also very heavy with blood clots. Symptoms also included nausea and pain around her eyes.
I discovered that the liver was stagnated which can sometimes be caused by stress, possibly brought on by her impending move to the UK from HK. According to Chinese medicine, it means the flow of blood and Qi is not smooth.
The tension in the neck was also addressed, resulting in a better blood circulation towards the head.
After the first couple of treatments she experienced changes in her period, less clotting and a lighter flow. By the 2nd cycle she was already seeing an improvement in the migraines, and by the 3rd cycle she was migraine free.
Martha received roughly 9 treatments over a 10 week period.
