Post-natal physiotherapy

As the woman's body changes during pregnancy and after childbirth, the focus with our physio is on perineal and abdominal rehabilitation which will help speed up the body's postnatal healing process.


The woman's body changes during pregnancy and after childbirth. She may love some changes and feel uncomfortable with others such as back pain, pelvic pain, incontinence and abdominal separation (diastasis recti). 

However, these changes are reversible. With appropriate treatment, the physical changes can be cured or at least their effects minimised. 

 

1.      Possible Post-Pregnancy Effects   

  • Incontinence

  • A need to urinate more often (overactive bladder)

  • Post natal back pain or neck pain

  • Abdominal separation or diastasis rectus

  • Abdominal pain / Scar pain (C-section, Episiotomy) 

  • Sacroiliac joint and pelvic pain 

  • Swelling in your ankles, feet and hands

  • Lower libido

  • Haemorrhoids

  • Constipation 

  • Tiredness

  • Poor pressure management 

 



2.     Postnatal Assessment Services 

Our Physio will also perform checks on your pelvic health, abdominal muscles, and other muscle mobility to ease you back into your everyday life and your original body form. Treatment will need to be adapted on a case-by-case basis, and also if it is a Caesarean section or a Natural birth. 



 



3.     Post Natal Treatment Services

Treatment of pain :

  • pain-relieving modalities to treat Postnatal back pain and neck pain, sacroiliac joint, and pelvic pain, episiotomy scars, tears, C-section

 

Abdominal Strengthening :

  • Postnatal Clinical Pilates to treat Abdominal Separation (Diastasis Rectus) and regain functional and competent abdominal muscles

  • Non-pressure generating exercises, hypopressive gymnastic 

 

Pelvic Floor Rehabilitation:

  • Biofeedback with Neurotrac Myoplus Pro using internal (vaginal) probes to understand Kegel exercises

  • Electric stimulation for incontinence treatment

  • Lymphatic massage (all body/ legs and ankles)

  • Pre/Post natal massage
